What Were the Chicago Bears Thinking?

Jay Cutler is in his final contract year with the Chicago Bears, and after last night’s performance against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Windy City’s fans are ready to oust him personally from Soldier Field completely.

The final score of the NFL Sunday Night Game was 54-11, with Philly adding to their winning record. After the success of Josh McCown under center for Chicago in Cutler’s injury absence, it was absolutely heartbreaking for die hard Bears fans to watch Cutler recover from injury last week – only to replace the guy who had been winning games for them – to throw two interceptions and eke out a game against the terrible Cleveland Browns. This week? No such luck. Clearly the defense did not play well, allowing the Eagles’ Nick Foles to throw for 230 yards, and two touchdowns, while LaSean McCoy ran rampant with 18 carries, 133 yards and two touchdowns as well, putting up 54 points on the Bears.

Clearly the Bears former “vaunted defense” is a thing of the past, with the loss of Brian Urlacher, and injuries at every level, including the line and their secondary. When that is the case, it is up to the quarterback to play well, and give his team a chance to win. Cutler does not provide that opportunity. If the Bears continue to play him into the post season (they are still very much alive, thanks to Green Bay and Detroit losing yesterday), they will be relaxing by the fire with their families sooner than later. The fans are probably already chanting: Bring back Josh! Bring back Josh! Who could blame them?
